Jay Chou Recognised By Aussie Kids For His 1-Second Australian Open Match, Not His Music Career

Jay Chou is one of the biggest names in Mandopop, with a music career spanning more than two decades.

But it seems not everyone knows him for his music.

Especially kids these days.

The 47-year-old recently shared a rather amusing encounter on Instagram after being recognised by a group of young children in Australia.

Except they apparently knew him for something other than his chart-topping hits.

"I was sitting by an outdoor tennis court when a few cute little Aussie kids, probably six or seven, in their school uniforms started whispering: 'Jay Chou?'," he wrote.

Naturally, Jay was curious about how these young Aussie kids knew who he was.

And their next question probably wasn't what he expected.

"And they asked: 'Did you play in the One Point Slam at the Australian Open?'" added Jay.

Ah, so that's where they recognised him from.

For those who missed it, Jay participated in the One Point Slam exhibition competition at the Australian Open in January this year.

The event, held at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, featured a winner-takes-all format where each match was decided by a single point.

Unfortunately for Jay, his tennis debut was over almost as quickly as it began.

He lost to 24-year-old Australian amateur Petar Jovic after lasting just one second on the court.

Yes, one second.

But hey, apparently that was all the time he needed to make an impression on these kids.

The only problem?

They might have thought he was just another tennis player.

And it seems the thought crossed Jay's mind too.

"After taking a few photos with them, I started wondering… did they even know I'm actually a singer?" he quipped.

Well, Jay, considering they recognised you from a one-second tennis appearance rather than your decades of Mandopop hits, we're guessing probably not.

At least they remembered your name.

Is this how he'll be remembered?
