Former TVB newscaster Gloria Mak Sze Man recently shared an IG Reel answering questions from her followers about her time reporting news for the Hong Kong broadcaster.

Gloria, 31, left TVB in June shortly after getting engaged to her non-celeb boyfriend. Now a free agent, Gloria has been busy planning her wedding and creating content on social media.

But back to her Ask Me Anything sesh. When asked if TVB provides the outfits news anchors wear, Gloria first said their clothes depend on the kind news they were reporting or if there's significant event that day.

“On big festive occasions, we wear red. When there’s news about people dying or buildings collapsing, we would wear plain, dull colours,” said Gloria.

And yes, TVB provides the outfits. Or they used to. “In the past, the company was able to borrow a lot of beautiful outfits, and sometimes they were from luxury brands,” she shared.

It wasn't always glamorous.

“There were times when they loaned stuff that were not good, like the style of the dress was wrong or the size didn’t fit. I once wore something that made my whole body itch. Somtimes, the clothers even reeked of body odour! It’s why newscasters end up buying quite a bit of clothes themselves,” she said.

Gloria worked in the news department for eight years and a lot of the clothes she wore to read the news were paid for out of her own pocket

However, she’s a thrifty person and would usually get her outfits from Taobao or from roadside stalls in Sham Shui Po. The cheapest outfit she ever got cost only HK$15 (S$2.6).
