TVB's Longest-Running Music Show, Jade Solid Gold, To End This Sunday After 42 Years

Earlier this week, it was rumoured that TVB's longest-running music variety show Jade Solid Gold will air its last episode this Sunday (May 21), after 42 years. 

Jade Solid Gold is considered one of Hong Kong's most influential shows, and anyone who is anyone in Cantopop, or music for that matter, has been on it. 

TVB has since confirmed the news, adding that they were be showing a special titled Jade Solid Gold's 43 Years Of Memories; Let The Music Soar on the same night. 

Original host, '80s Hong Kong singer Ken Choi, 62, will also return to reminisce his time on the show, which premiered in 1981.

When TVB Entertainment News reached out to Ken, he said it's a pity that the show is coming to an end. When asked about his most memorable moment hosting the show, he said it was getting to interview Elton John. 

Ken hosted Jade Solid Gold from 1981 to 1985, but rumour has it that he was removed from his role after he allegedly taunted Leslie Cheung on the show.

According to reports, Ken had said "A moment of glory doesn't mean it will last forever" after congratulating Leslie for his win at the Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation in 1985, seemingly hinting that he thought the singer's fame would not last.

Ken was not the only famous person who anchored Jade Solid Gold, which is currently hosted by TVB host Amigo Choi.

Heavenly King Andy Lau (1984), Hong Kong pop divas Sandy Lam (1986) and Vivian Chow (1988-1991), singer Leo Ku (1993-1994), as well as actress Anita Yuen (1991) also emceed the show before.
